History:

As a boy, looking off across the lake, Elm Park was one of Gary Gygax's favorite spots to daydream. He read books from the Lake Geneva Public Library and imagined worlds beyond Wisconsin. The Gygax Park Bench was dedicated here by the Gygax Memorial Fund on July 27, 2023, the first ever Gary Gygax Day in Lake Geneva. The bench may be found to the south, along the Shore Path in the spot where Gygax once sat, dreaming of one day living in Stone Manor and writing fantasy novels of his own. He realized this dream in the mid–1980s, living in the actual Lake Geneva mansion and writing the fantasy books that made him a New York Times Best-Selling Author several times over. Gygax was a visionary whose passion to share his love of games, science fiction, and fantasy would lead him to create the game that changed the world: Dungeons & Dragons®. The Gygax Memorial Fund has plans that this historic location in Elm Park will be the site of Gary Gygax's memorial: a stone table with a bronze likeness of Gygax seated at one end, where fans may gather around to play a game of D&D®.
